The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the 71st National Film Awards on August 1st, 2025 in a press conference for honoring the best of Indian cinema in the year 2023. It consisted of as many as 332 entries in the feature film category, 27 books, 115 in non-feature film category and 16 critics’ submissions.President Droupadi Murmu felicitated the winners along with the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award on September 23rd, 2025 at the Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
The highest award in the field of cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke Award was awarded to Mohanlal and the jury members included Ashutosh Gowariker, Mithun Chakraborty, Shankar Mahadevan.
The best actress award was given to Rani Mukherjee for her role in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway and Shah Rukh Khan got the best actor award for the film Jawan. Actor Vikrant Massey also got the best actor award for 12th Fail which was declared as the Best Feature Film.
Aatmapamphl was awarded the Best Debut Film of a Director award, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani got the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, Naal 2 got Best Children’s Film award, Hanu-Man got Best Film in AVGC award, Sudipto Sen got the award for Best Director for The Kerala Story.
